The total number of cases in India rose to 4.08 crore as more than 2.35 lakh people tested positive for coronavirus infection in a single day, according to figures released by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday. The death toll rose to nearly 5 lakh, with 871 deaths recorded in a 24-hour period, data updated at 8am showed.

  

The total number of Covid-19 infections in India has increased to over 4 crore, the ministry said. The number of antiviral vaccine doses in the country so far has crossed 165 crores.

Active cases fell from 1 lakh to 20 lakh - 4.91 per cent of the total infections - the country’s recovery rate was 93.89 per cent. The daily positive rate was 13.39 percent and the weekly positive rate was 16.89 percent. The number of people recovering from the disease has risen to more than 3.8 crore, with a case death rate of 1.21 per cent.

After the update on Saturday, the total number of infections was over 4 crore, the ministry said. The number of antiviral vaccine doses in the country so far has crossed 165 crores. India crossed the crore mark in the number of cases on December 19, 2020. It crossed the two crore milestone on May 4 and the three crore mark on June 23.
