New Delhi: A total of 58,077 new cases of coronavirus were reported in India on Friday. According to the Union Ministry of Health, the number of active cases has dropped to 6,97,802. 13.4% lower than yesterday, the positive dropped to less than 4%.
According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate is 3.89 per cent while the weekly positivity rate is 5.76 per cent.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Dr. Balaram Bhargava on Thursday hailed the first dose coverage of 96 per cent Kovid-19 vaccine nationwide and said India was moving towards vaccine super-power.
In Thane district of Maharashtra, 261 new corona positive cases were reported, bringing the total number of cases to 7,06,722, an official said on Friday. New cases were reported on Thursday.
The death toll from the virus has risen to 11,839 in a single day in the district. The Thane death rate was 1.67 per cent, he said.
Nineteen others died of COVID-19 in Punjab on Thursday, while the number of infections rose to 5,54,367 from 583 latest coronavirus cases, the medical bulletin said.
Deaths were reported in several districts including Barnala, Faridkot, Ferozepur and Gurdaspur. The toll increased to 17,554, while the number of active COVID-19 cases increased to 5,771.
89 cases were reported in Mohali, 69 in Lodhiana and 54 in Jalandhar. According to the bulletin, a total of 381 patients were on oxygen support, while 34 critical patients were on ventilator support.
As of Friday, the number of Covid-19s in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands had risen to 9,958, with seven more being tested positive for the infection, the health bulletin said.
Three new patients had a travel history and four infections were detected during contact tracing. There are now 152 active cases in the Union Territory and so far 9,677 people have been cured from the disease, including 23 in the last 24 hours.
