Rohit Sharma has returned from injury and will captain the Indian team in the upcoming home series against the West Indies. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced the three-match ODI and three-match T20 series against the West Indies at home. Rohit, who has been appointed as India's white football captain, will captain the ODI team as a full-fledged captain for the first time after missing the tour of South Africa due to a thigh muscle injury. Rohit's return will be a big boost for a team that is better off with a shocking 0-3 whitewash at the hands of South Africa.
On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav has returned to the team as part of the ODI team. Ravichandran Ashwin has been dropped from the squad for his poor performance in the ODI series against South Africa. Young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi received his first call-up into the national team.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami have been rested from the series and KL Rahul will be available from the second ODI, the BCCI said.
While Ravindra Jadeja will not be available for the series due to recovery from a knee injury, Axar Patel will be available for the T20s.
Rohit's return means he will be at the top of the order along with Shikhar Dhawan in ODI form and can be seen as Vice-captain KL Rahul falling to the 4th slot.
Three ODIs will be played in Ahmedabad and three T20s in Kolkata.
