India is currently experiencing the third wave of Covid by the highly circulating Omicron variant. However, in the opinion of experts, the cases are much smaller compared to the second wave. The government said on Thursday that the epidemic situation had improved and that there was a contraction in the spread of Covid-19 infection as a whole, despite concerns from states and districts.
At a press conference, Union Secretary of Health Lav Agarwal said cases and positives were declining every week in 34 states and union territories, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat, while Kerala and Mizoram both states are still concerned.
There is a steady decline in the daily Covid-19 cases, daily active cases and daily positive rate, indicating a decrease in the prevalence of infection. He noted that the increase in the administration of the vaccine dose reduced the death rate in the Covid-19 case.
