For the fourth day in a row, less than 50,000 Covid cases were reported in India. On Wednesday, there were 30,615 latest cases registered in India - 3,206 more than yesterday, with the cumulative caseload reaching 42,723,558.
In addition, the number of daily deaths due to coronavirus has increased by 48% today. As of Wednesday, 514 people had died, bringing the death toll to 5,09,872. Currently, Covid deaths in India account for 1.19% of the total caseload.
However, the number of active cases dropped to 52,887 in the last 24 hours and the number of daily recoveries rose to 82,988. The number of active cases in India increased to 3,70,240, which is 0.87% of the total cases.
Yesterday, a total of 12,51,677 Covid tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. So far India has conducted 75.42 crore tests. The daily positive rate (2.45%) rose slightly today. Yesterday, India’s daily positive rate was 2.23%. On Wednesday, India's weekly compatibility rate stood at 3.32%.
The number of doses of Covid-19 vaccine given so far in the country has crossed 174 crores. More than 1.79 crore (1,79,58,242) precautionary doses were provided to health care workers, frontline workers and those 60 years of age and older.
95.83 crore people got the first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine while 76.19 crore people in the country were fully vaccinated.
Of the 514 new deaths, 304 were from Kerala, 35 from Maharashtra, 26 from Karnataka, 22 from Odisha, 21 from West Bengal, 16 from Gujarat, 14 from Tamil Nadu, 13 from Punjab and 12 from Rajasthan.
Of the 304 deaths in Kerala, 20 were reported in the last 24 hours, the rest occurred in the last few days, but were not registered due to late receipt of documents and 130 were assigned as Covid-19 deaths on appeal based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court.
