Entertainment News: American streaming service Netflix has announced a new show with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., best known for the Amazon Prime video original The Family Man. The comedy crime thriller series is titled Guns & Gulab. The cast is yet to be announced.
The service announced last month that it had added 8.3 million subscribers worldwide in the December quarter, along with the release of two major films, including the blockbuster Korean television series Squid Game: Don't Look Up and Red Notice.
However, overall, the service has 222 million paid subscriptions worldwide, reducing its net worth from 37 million a year ago to over 18 million by 2021. The company follows the January-December accounting year. Love is blind from Brazil, my name is Korea, the superhero movie Minnal Murali of India and the Danish thriller The Chestnut Man have been big hits this past quarter.
In December, Netflix slashed rates by 18-60% on plans to attract and penetrate a wider audience in India. The move has set the stage for more competition between foreign giants, including Disney + Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video, which so far have been ahead in terms of number of members and now all players are clearly focused on volume rather than value.
The Netflix mobile-only plan, previously priced at ₹ 199 per month, has now come with 149. The basic plan that allows you to access the entire content on any one device is now priced at ₹ 199 instead of 499.
The company announced local productions with prominent Indian actors and directors such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Hiramandi), Vishal Bhardwaj (Khufia), Zoya Akhtar (adapted from Archie Comics), Madhuri Dixit (Finding Anonymous), and Kapil Sharma. Along with the second season of hits like Unmatched, Masaba Masaba and the amazing lives of Bollywood actresses.
