Latest Corona Virus and Omicron News: As many as 3 lakh cases of Covid-19 are reported every day in India i.e., 3,06,064 new infections are reported in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday (January 24, 2022).


 

This brings the number of active corona cases in the country to 22,49,335. India has conducted 71.69 crore Covid-19 tests so far, of which 14,74,753 have been conducted in the last 24 hours. While the daily positive rate was at 20.75%, the weekly positive rate increased to 17.03%.

India, the second most respected country in the world, also recorded 439 deaths and 2,43,495 recoveries between Sunday and morning.

Meanwhile, 162.26 crore-vaccine doses have been delivered so far under the Covid-19 vaccination drive across the country. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are still over 13.83 crore unbalanced and unused vaccine doses available in the States and Union Territories.

The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) says the omicron variant of Covid-19 is in the community transmission stage in India. The consortium, in a bulletin released on Sunday, said Omicron dominated multiple metros with increasing new cases.

The consortium said the BA.2 lineage, an infectious sub-variant of Omicron, was found in the "significant fraction" of the country. The new Covid-19 variant has reported 10,000 cases in India so far.

According to a preliminary analysis by IIT Madras, India's R-value fell to 1.57 during the week from January 14-21 and a third wave of infections is expected nationally in the next fortnight.

According to Dr. Jayant Jha, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, IIT Madras, the coronavirus is likely to reach its peak in the country in the next 14 days until February 6.

According to previous estimates, the third wave will peak between February 1 and February 15. The R-value, in particular, indicates how many people an infected person can become infected with and the infection ends when this value is lost. Below 1.

According to an analysis shared by IIT Madras, the R-value between January 14 and January 21 was 1.57 and during the week of January 7-13 it was 2.2, from January 1-6 to 4 and from 2.9 to December 25-31.

According to the data, Mumbai R-value is 0.67, Delhi 0.98, Chennai 1.2 and Kolkata 0.56. The R-value of Mumbai and Kolkata shows that the Covid-19 peak ended there and it will change locally, but it is still close to 1 for Delhi and Chennai.
