According to data released by the Union Ministry of Health on Sunday, there are 3,33,533 new coronavirus infections in India, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 3,92,37,264.



Active cases rose to 21,87,205, bringing the death toll to 4,89,409 with 525 latest deaths, according to data updated at 8am. Of the total infections, active cases accounted for 5.57 per cent, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate fell to 93.18 per cent, the ministry said.

A total of 73,840 cases were reported in the Active Covid-19 caseload over a 24-hour period. According to the ministry, the daily positive rate is 17.78 per cent and the weekly positive rate is 16.87 per cent.

The number of people recovering from the disease reached 3,65,60,560, while the case death rate was 1.25 percent. The number of cumulative doses administered so far in the country under the Covid-19 vaccination drive has crossed 161.92 crores.

The number of Covid-19 victims in India was 20 lakhs on August 7, 2020, 30 lakhs on August 23, 40 lakhs on September 5 and 50 lakhs on September 16. 60 lakhs on September 28 and 70 lakhs on October 11. 80 lakhs. 90 lakhs on October 29, November 20 and crossed the crore mark on December 19.

India crossed the two-crore mark on May 4 and crossed 3 crores on June 23. Of the 525 new deaths, 132 were from Kerala and 48 from Maharashtra.

The country has recorded a total of 4,89,409 deaths so far, including 1,42,071 from Maharashtra, 51,739 from Kerala, 38,563 from Karnataka, 37,178 from Tamil Nadu, 25,586 from Delhi, 23,038 from Uttar Pradesh and 20,302 from West Bengal.

The ministry emphasized that more than 70 percent of deaths were due to comorbidities.
